How to play Maths Crossword
A crossword where every clue is a maths question and the answers are numbers.
The rules
- Each clue is a maths question — percentages, fractions, sequences, place value and more.
- Write the answer's digits into the grid, one digit per cell, across or down.
- Where answers cross, they share a digit — use one answer to check another.
- Press Check to see which cells are right; Reveal shows the answers.
Playing Maths Crossword on Puzzle Solvers
- Press Generate Crossword for a fresh puzzle.
- Click a cell and type digits; each clue is a maths question.
- Check highlights mistakes; Reveal shows the answers; New puzzle starts again.
A worked example
1 Across: 25% of 84 (2 cells). 25% is a quarter, so the answer is 21.
1 Down starts with that 2: 'the next term in 5, 11, 17, …' (2 cells). The sequence adds 6, so the answer is 23 — and its first digit 2 matches the crossing.
Strategies
- Easy clues first. Fill the clues you are sure of; their digits help with harder crossing clues.
- Count the cells. The number of cells tells you how many digits the answer has — a quick check on your working.
- Use crossings to check. If a crossing digit doesn't fit, one of the two answers is wrong.
Common mistakes
- Writing a decimal point or a unit in a cell — only digits go in the grid.
