Make the Number Solver — Step by Step

Click a number card and type its value; click the target and type it. Then press Solve. Or play a generated puzzle and send it here with one click.

Make the Number Solver: rules, how to use it, tips

Combine the numbers you’re given with + − × ÷ to make the target exactly, using each number at most once.

The rules

  1. You may add, subtract, multiply and divide.
  2. Each number can be used once; the answers you make can be used again in later steps.
  3. Every step must give a positive whole number — no negatives or fractions.
  4. With the ‘use every number’ rule, all the numbers must be used.

Using the solver

  1. Choose how many numbers and whether every number must be used, then enter the numbers and the target (or press Sample).
  2. Press Solve to see the shortest way to make the target — or the closest you can get.
