Each clue square shows one or more numbers: the lengths of the separate runs of shaded squares among the eight squares around it. “3” means three shaded squares in a row around the clue; “1 1” means two single shaded squares with white between them. The order of the numbers doesn’t matter.
Clue squares are never shaded. All the shaded squares must join up side by side into one wall, and no 2×2 block may be completely shaded.
Start with big clues and zeros: an 8 shades the whole ring, a 0 leaves it all white.
Shade one connected wall so that every clue lists the runs of shaded squares in the eight squares around it, with no 2×2 shaded blocks.
